I wonder whether Max Publisher might have an interest in offering Linda Editor a job at one of his company's many successful imprints. If this happened, Linda and Jane could continue to work together for years to come. The only loser would be Isaac Indy, the founder and president of the small publisher that gave Linda and Jane their first opportunities. Would Jack ever take it upon himself to suggest such a move to Max?
If the price of acquiring Jane Writer is acquiring her editor too, it's a cheap solution and a clever one. But if I was the author in this scenario, no amount of money could tempt me away from Isaac Indy.
